Tribal Community Health Provider Program
Tribal Community Health Provider Program
About Us
The TCHP Programs support tribal innovation and leadership by facilitating programs that allow our communities to thrive in the way our ancestors intended. Our programs promote tribal self-governance and tribal sovereignty by removing barriers and nurturing the voice of the next generation of AI/AN leadership. Our project is expanding the tribal community health provider programs in the Portland Area by designing and implementing TCHP education programs for CHA/P, BHA/P, and DHA/T, championing initiatives to expand health care workforce, amplifying tribal leadership in health care, supporting tribal traditional practices, and establishing infrastructure to support TCHP programs like the Portland Area CHAP Certification Board, and the Oregon DHAT pilot project.
The Tribal Community Health Provider Project (TCHPP) oversees the Dental Health Aide Program (DHAP), the Behavioral Health Aide Program (BHAP) the Community Health Aide Program (CHAP) Project. Our program partners with Portland Area Tribes and invests in the future of our tribal nations by working to increase access to high quality, culturally appropriate health, behavioral health, and oral health care through training and employment of Community Health Aides/Practitioners (CHA/P), Behavioral Health Aides/Practitioners (BHA/P), and Dental Health Aides/Therapists (DHA/T).
The TCHP Program tackles social and structural determinants of health and connects with tribes, tribal health programs, and tribal leaders to break down barriers to education for AI/AN students. The goals of our tribal partners include healthier populations and we support that goal through creating infrastructure to train more AI/AN health care providers to increase access to care and improve health outcomes.
